About

The University of Tokyo and Shimizu Corporation have established a Social Cooperation Program titled “Materials Circular Construction Course.” This course explores how buildings can contribute to a circular economy by quantifying the impact of construction activities on global resources through material flow simulations and examining the use of new materials and construction methods to promote material circularity.
Research Scheme
This course consists of the following two working groups.
WG1: Circularity assessment of construction materials
- Developing simulation models to track/predict the material circulation of construction materials (Ca, Si, Al, Fe, etc.)
- Proposal of indicators for circularity assessment and sustainable scenarios for the construction sector
WG2: Development of mono-construction materials
- Multi-functional and highly recyclable construction materials, components, and their jointing method
- Inventing practical manufacturing and application methods for construction
